MLB: Cleveland 4, Oakland 3

CLEVELAND, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Indians went in front on consecutive sixth-inning homers by Ryan Garko and Jhonny Peralta Friday night, en route to a 4-3 victory over Oakland.

The Indians reduced their magic number for clinching the American League Central to two. Any combination of two Cleveland victories or Detroit losses will give the Indians their first division title in six years.

Fausto Carmona (18-8) gave up a run on five hits, with seven strikeouts over six innings to get the victory.

Joe Borowski worked the ninth for his 43rd save, tops in the American League.

It was Cleveland's fourth straight win and its 21st out of 26 games.

The loss went to Joe Blanton (14-10), who allowed four runs on 10 hits in 5 2/3.

Oakland has suffered five straight setbacks.
