MLB: N.Y. Mets 3, Houston 1

NEW YORK, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Tom Glavine held Houston to an earned run and three hits in seven innings Saturday afternoon as the New York Mets beat the Astros 3-1.

The veteran left-hander got the 303rd victory of his career while improving to 13-6 this season with his sixth straight winning decision. Glavine did not walk a batter and struck out four.

New York scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings on David Wright’s solo homer, Paul LoDuca’s RBI double and a wild pitch by Houston starter Woody Williams.

Five players had one hit as the NL East-leading Mets got the fourth win in their last five games.

Closer Billy Wagner earned his 31st save.

Houston’s only run scored on Ty Wigginton’s RBI single in the top of the eighth.

Cody Ransom, Carlos Lee, and Mark Loretta had the other hits for the Astros, who dropped six of seven.

Williams (8-14) yielded three earned runs and five hits in six innings.
