Lawyer: Vick agrees to plead guilty

RICHMOND, Va., Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The owner of the Atlanta Falcons says he's not surprised quarterback Michael Vick has agreed to plead guilty to charges involving illegal dogfighting.

"From a personal standpoint, he's doing the right thing," said Falcons owner Arthur Blank. "That's been my counsel to him some while ago, and publicly as well, to get this behind him as quickly as he can."

Blank said he could not discuss Vick's future as a Falcon until he learns more about the facts of the case. After his indictment last month, Vick was ordered by National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell not to appear at the Falcons' training camp.

Vick has agreed to plead guilty Monday in federal court in Richmond, Va., to conspiracy charges involving an illegal dogfighting operation run from his property, said his lawyer, Billy Martin. Sources close to the case say Vick faces prison time, CNN reported.

"Michael wishes to apologize again to everyone who has been hurt by this matter," Martin said Monday.

Court documents allege Vick helped hang and drown eight dogs that didn't fight well in a dogfighting venture based on his farm in Virginia.
