San Francisco to mark Bonds' achievement

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- The City of San Francisco announced plans to honor San Francisco Giants home run king Barry Bonds on Aug. 24.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom said Thursday that the city would have a celebration at Justin Herman Plaza. The gathering is to include current and former teammates of Bonds, Giants executives and broadcasters and other celebrities.

Bonds became baseball's all-time home run leader on Aug. 8, when he hit the 756th homer of his career surpassing the mark set by Hank Aaron. Bonds has since hit three more home runs.
