Petrova, Ivanovic advance to Carson final

CARSON, Calif., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Nadia Petrova reached the final of the East West Bank Classic Saturday night when top-seeded Maria Sharapova withdrew because of a left leg injury.

Sharapova waited until the last minute before deciding she could not play on the strain in her lower left leg.

The injury also forced her to withdraw from next week's Rogers Cup tournament in Toronto. She said she wants to get healthy before next month's U.S. Open.

Petrova, the fourth seed, will face No. 3 Ana Ivanovic in Sunday's title match. Ivanovic was a 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, winner against second-seeded Jelena Jankovic.

"I was not on my game," said Jankovic, a semifinalist at this year's French Open.
