MLB: LA Dodgers 2, St. Louis 1

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- James Loney hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth Friday night, giving the Los Angeles Dodgers a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals.

Loney's fourth homer of the season broke up a scoreless battle through eight innings, and made him one of six players with one hit for the Dodgers, who stopped a six-game losing streak at Busch Stadium and won their second straight game overall.

Starter Brad Penny scattered five hits over seven scoreless innings with three walks and six strikeouts.

The winner was Joe Beimel (3-1). Closer Takashi Saito earned his 29th save, snuffing out a ninth-inning St. Louis rally after Yadier Molina's RBI single.

Molina had three hits and David Eckstein had two for the Cardinals, who had won their previous two games.

Losing pitcher Adam Wainwright (10-9) went the distance, giving up two earned runs and six hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
