SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- Washington Nationals left-hander Mike Bacsik says he is glad to be part of Major League Baseball history after giving up Barry Bonds' 756th home run.
Bonds surpassed Hank Aaron Tuesday night as MLB's all-time home run leader with a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning in San Francisco. The blast made Bacsik -- an 18th-round draft pick by Cleveland in 1996 -- the 446th pitcher to give up a homer to Bonds.
"I'm part of a special moment that will never be forgotten," Bacsik said on Washington's Web site. "As a kid, you dream of this moment. Unfortunately, you dream of being the one hitting it, not the one giving it up. Honestly, I never watched (the homer) land because I was watching Barry's reaction."
Coincidentally, Bacsik's father, Mike Sr., prevented Aaron from hitting a 756th homer while pitching for the Texas Rangers on Aug. 23, 1976.
