Eagles sign top draft pick

PHILADELPHIA, July 25 (UPI) -- Quarterback Kevin Kolb Wednesday inked a four-year contract with Philadelphia after being the Eagles' No. 1 pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.

The former University of Houston product was the 36th overall choice, and will join the competition to be the back-up behind Donovan McNabb.

That battle also includes A.J. Feeley and Kelly Holcomb.

Kolb was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year last season, when the Stephenville, Texas native completed 292 of 432 passes for 30 touchdowns and 3,809 yards with just four interceptions.

He was fifth in the nation in passing efficiency (162.72 rating), sixth in passing yards (3,809), and was a finalist for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award, given annually to the best senior quarterback in the nation.

Kolb finished his career ranked third in NCAA Division I-A history in total yards (13,715) and fourth in passing yards (12,964).

He scored 21 career rushing touchdowns, the most ever by a quarterback in school history.
