MLB: Cincinnati 8, N.Y. Mets 4

NEW YORK, July 13 (UPI) -- Brandon Phillips drove in a career-high six runs Friday night to help the Cincinnati Reds beat the New York Mets, 8-4.

Phillips' second career grand slam staked Cincinnati to a quick 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. He hit an RBI double in the fifth, and an RBI single in the sixth.

Cincinnati's Alex Gonzalez had two hits and two RBI. Ryan Freel had a hit and scored three times, while Norris Hopper had two runs and two hits for the Reds, who have won five of their last six games.

Winning pitcher Aaron Harang (10-2) gave up three earned runs and seven hits in six innings, with two walks and eight strikeouts.

New York's Lastings Milledge had a hit and two RBI. Carlos Delgado and Ruben Gotay both knocked in one run, while Shaun Green, Gotay and Delgado all had two hits for the Mets, who have dropped two of three.

The loser was starter John Maine (10-5).
