MLB: Chi. White Sox 6, Minnesota 3

CHICAGO, July 8 (UPI) -- Jim Thome Sunday hit a two-run homer to help the Chicago White Sox top the Minnesota Twins, 6-3.

Thome's 14th homer of the season was part of a five-run third inning. Chicago got one RBI from four other players, including Rob Mackowiak and Paul Konerko, who both hit solo homers.

Thome had two runs and three hits for the White Sox, who had 11 hits in all and won twice in the three-game series before the All-Star break.

Winning pitcher Javier Vazquez (6-5) went the distance, giving up three earned runs and eight hits, with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Minnesota's Justin Morneau had two hits, including an RBI single in the fourth and a solo home run in the sixth.

Nick Punto added two hits for the Twins, who went 4-6 before the break.

Losing pitcher Carlos Silva (6-10) gave up six runs -- five earned -- and 10 hits in five innings.
