KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 4 (UPI) -- A goal by Luciano Emilio late in the first half Wednesday gave D.C. United a 1-0 decision over Kansas City.

United moved one point in front of idle New England for first place in the Eastern Conference. Kansas City's winless streak was extended to five games.

Emilio collected a pass in the penalty area in the 44th minute and put a left-footed shot past Kevin Hartman for his eighth goal of the season.

Kansas City outshot United 21-11.
