Giguere signs contract extension

ANAHEIM, Calif., June 21 (UPI) -- Jean-Sebastien Giguere, goaltender for the Stanley Cup-winning Anaheim Ducks, signed a contract extension Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Giguere put together a 36-10-8 record during the 2006-07 season, with a 2.26 goals-against average. The 36 wins were a franchise record.

"J.S. Giguere has been an instrumental part of this franchise for the last six years," said Brian Burke, the team's executive vice president and general manager. "We view him as one of the top goaltenders in the NHL today, one with tremendous character and competitive fire, traits we value greatly in this organization."

Giguere won 13 games during the run to the championship, with a .922 save percentage and a 1.97 goals-against average.
