Kansas' Rush has knee injury

LAWRENCE, Kan., May 29 (UPI) -- Kansas guard Brandon Rush suffered a torn ligament in his right knee just before he withdrew from the NBA draft.

Kansas Coach Bill Self said Rush tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in a pickup game last Thursday. Rush, who just finished his sophomore season, pulled his name from consideration for the NBA draft Friday after an MRI confirmed the injury. Rush was projected to be a first-round selection in the draft.

He led Kansas in scoring (13.8 points) last season when he helped the Jayhawks to the Big 12 conference title and No. 1 seeding in the NCAA tournament.

Self said Rush would have surgery within the next week.
