Roger Clemens struggles in tune-up

TRENTON, N.J., May 23 (UPI) -- Roger Clemens, in what was expected to be his final minor-league tune-up prior to joining the New York Yankees, struggled in a 102-pitch outing Wednesday.

Clemens allowed three runs on six hits. He also walked four with both a wild pitch and a hit batter. Pitching for Class AA Trenton, he left the game with his team trailing 3-2.

He is expected to join the Yankees' rotation next week and possibly make a start in Toronto.

Clemens, 44, signed a contract for the final four months of the season, which will earn him more than $20 million. He is rejoining the Yankees after pitching the last three seasons for the Houston Astros. During Clemens' five-year stint with the Yankees beginning in 1999, the club won two World Series titles.

He has won 348 games in the majors, eighth best all-time.
