PHILADELPHIA, April 30 (UPI) -- Scott Verplank jumped 37 places and Phil Mickelson inched into third place in the latest men's world golf rankings.

Verplank had developed a personal relationship with Nelson, a golf legend, making his one-stroke victory at the Nelson Open all the more poignant.

Mickelson finished tied for third and moved past Adam Scott for No. 3 in the world rankings.

Tiger Woods, who returns to PGA play this week, remained the top-rated golfer followed by Jim Furyk. After Mickelson and Scott is Ernie Els at No. 5.

Henrik Stenson and Vijay Singh remained sixth and seventh, respectively, while Geoff Ogilvy moved up one spot to eighth and Retief Goosen slipped one to ninth. Luke Donald, the Nelson runner-up, is 10th.
