UNIONDALE, N.Y., April 16 (UPI) -- Daniel Briere scored the winning goal in the second period Monday as Buffalo nipped the New York Islanders 3-2 in Game 3 of the Eastern quarterfinals.
Adam Mair and Thomas Vanek also scored for the Sabres, who now have a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Ryan Miller stopped 20 of 22 shots in the victory.
Ryan Smythe had a goal and an assist, and Trent Hunter also scored for the Islanders. New York goalie Rick DiPietro made 32 saves.
Game 4 of the series is scheduled for Wednesday on the Islanders' home ice.
