MLB: San Diego 7, San Francisco 0

SAN FRANCISCO, April 3 (UPI) -- Jake Peavy gave up three hits and struck out six in six innings Tuesday as San Diego blanked San Francisco, 7-0.

Peavy easily outpitched San Francisco ace Barry Zito and gave Bud Black a victory in his managerial debut. Zito was given a seven-year, $126 million contract to leave Oakland, but in his initial appearance with the Giants allowed three runs in five innings.

Jose Cruz Jr. drove in three runs and Josh Bard had four hits for the Padres.

San Francisco's Barry Bonds, who is 22 away from breaking the all-time record held by Hank Aaron, opened the season with one hit and a walk in three at bats.
