NHL: NY Rangers 2, NY Islanders 1 (OT)

UNIONDALE, N.Y., March 25 (UPI) -- Michael Nylander scored with 49 seconds left in overtime Sunday to give the New York Rangers a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

It was the Rangers' fifth straight win, their best streak of the season. They are currently sixth in the Eastern Conference with 87 points.

Nylander, perched just outside the crease, tipped in a pass from Brendan Shanahan.

Despite the loss, the Islanders picked up a crucial point that moved them into a tie with Carolina and Montreal for the eighth and final playoff position in the Eastern Conference.
