
BUFFALO, N.Y., March 21 (UPI) -- Drew Stafford scored two goals and Dainius Zubrus added a pair of assists Wednesday night as the Buffalo Sabres topped Washington 5-2.
The win gave the Sabres 100 points for the second season in a row and their third win in the past four games.
After having a goal waved off in the in the scoreless first period, Buffalo took a 1-0 lead just 40 seconds into the second period on a goal by Dmitri Kalinin. Clarke MacArthur added another goal in the period while Daniel Briere rounded out the scoring.
Donald Brashear and Brian Pothier scored for the Capitals while Olaf Kolzig allowed five goals on 31 shots.
After the game, Caps Coach Glen Hanlon credited the Sabres with playing solid defense and being "a good model for us to learn from."
