Toronto acquires Mulrooney from Dallas

TORONTO, March 20 (UPI) -- Major League Soccer's newest team, Toronto FC, announced a trade Tuesday with FC Dallas for midfielder Richard Mulrooney.

In exchange, Dallas will receive Toronto's 2008 first round MLS SuperDraft pick.

For Mulrooney, 30, Toronto FC will be his third MLS team in his professional career, having also played for San Jose and Dallas.

The trade opens up a slot on the 28-man Dallas roster, which will be occupied by Colombian midfielder Juan Carlos Toja. Toja, 21, was signed late in February after spending the past year at the Argentine club, River Plate.

Mulrooney, an eight-year MLS veteran, joined Dallas from the now defunct San Jose Earthquakes early in 2005.

Since his move to Texas, Mulrooney was named as a commissioners' pick in the 2006 MLS All-Star game.

In October 2006, Mulrooney was named as the MLS Comeback Player of the Year after suffering a torn ACL that limited him to just seven games in 2005.
