NHL: Washington 4, New Jersey 2

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Milan Jurcina, Alexander Semin, Matt Pettinger and Tomas Fleischmann scored for Washington Saturday as the Capitals downed New Jersey, 4-2.

The Capitals ended a five-game losing streak with Brent Johnson making 29 saves. The teams play again Sunday in Washington.

New Jersey had beaten the Capitals in six straight meetings, but had to play Saturday without leading scorer Brian Gionta who missed his third straight game with a groin injury.

Cam Janssen and Jay Pandolfo scored for New Jersey, which had won its previous three games.
