BOGOTA, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- Emilie Loit and Roberta Vinci posted victories Wednesday and will meet in the quarterfinals of the $175,000 Copa Colsanitas Santander tournament in Colombia.
Loit, the tournament's No. 4 seed, dropped the middle set of a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win over Paola Suarez. Vinci had little trouble in a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Alize Cornet. Suarez, the sixth-seed, is looking to win an event she took in 1998 and 2001 and will meet Loit in Friday's quarterfinals.
In other second-round matches Wednesday, seventh-seeded Klara Zakopalova beat Pauline Parmentier, 6-2, 6-3, and Nathalie Vlerin stopped Conchita Martinez Granados, 6-2, 6-2.
The tournament's top-seeded players, including Flavia Pennetta and Lourdes Dominguez Lino, who have met in the event finals the last two years have their second-round matches Thursday.
The Copa Colsanitas winner collects $25,840.
