EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Jarkko Ruutu scored twice Friday night to help the Pittsburgh Penguins skate by the New Jersey Devils, 5-4.
Ruutu scored his first goal in a three-goal first period, when Pittsburgh spurted to a 3-0 lead.
The advantage was 5-2 after the second period, when New Jersey got goals from Brian Rafalski and Patrick Elias, and Sydney Crosby and Ruutu scored for Pittsburgh.
New Jersey came within 5-4 in the third on goals by Zach Parise and Travis Zajac.
Robert Scuderi and Jordan Staal also scored once each, Josef Melichar had two assists, and Marc-Andre Fleury gave up for four goals on 31 shots for the Penguins, who ended a four-game losing streak at New Jersey and have scored at least one point in 15 straight games.
Elias and Rafalski each added one assist, Scott Gomez had two assists, and Brodeur was beaten five times on 24 shots for the Devils.
