JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Former University of Alabama Coach Mike Shula Thursday was hired as the new quarterbacks coach for the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars.
Alabama fired Shula Nov. 27, after he led his alma mater to a 26-23 record in four years.
He replaces Ken Anderson in Jacksonville, who was one of five assistants fired by Coach Jack Del Rio after the 2006 season. Anderson has since been hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Del Rio still has five coaching vacancies to fill. The Jaguars already has added former Arizona State Coach Dirk Koetter as offensive coordinator and Joe DeCamillis as special teams coordinator.
Shula -- whose undoing at Alabama was an 0-8 record against LSU and archrival Auburn -- also was a candidate for the vacancy with the Miami Dolphins before San Diego offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was hired to replace Nick Saban, who bolted Miami for the Alabama job.
