Malisse among winners at Chennai

CHENNAI, India, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Xavier Malisse was among second-round winners Wednesday at the Chennai Open tennis tournament in India.

Malisse, from Belgium, swept past Italian Stefano Galvani 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Fifth-seeded Spaniard Carlos Moya, the runner-up in the tournament last year, defeated American Kevin Kim 6-4, 6-3 to win his second-round match. Also, Croat Ivo Karlovic won a pair of tie-breakers in eliminating Dane Kristian Pless, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-2).

Top-seeded Rafael Nadal is scheduled to play his second-round match Thursday against local favorite Karan Rastogi.

The tournament continues through the week, with Sunday's championship match winner earning $65,850.
