Robert Lang had two goals for Detroit. Jiri Hudler also scored, but a poor start by Dominik Hasek proved to be too big of a hurdle for the Red Wings.

Hasek surrendered three goals on just 12 shots in the first period before he was replaced by Chris Osgood, who made 13 saves the rest of the way.
