LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Left-hander Ted Lilly has left Toronto to sign with the Chicago Cubs.
His agent, Larry O'Brien, told MLB.com at the Winter Baseball Meetings at Lake Buena Vista, Fla., that the 30-year-old Lilly will get $40 million over four years.
"He was intrigued by the opportunity to maybe be involved in something special and get Chicago back to the post-season and a world championship," O'Brien said. "At the end of the day, Ted thinks they have a great opportunity to go from last to first. Detroit did it, so why not Chicago?"
Last season with the Blue Jays, Lilly was 15-13 with a 4.31 ERA in 181 2/3 innings.
He joins other free agent signees Alfonso Soriano, Aramis Ramirez, Mark DeRosa, Kerry Wood, Henry Blanco and Wade Miller.
The Cubs retained Ramirez, who spurned other lucrative offers, while Lilly bypassed his former team, the New York Yankees.
Lilly has a 59-48 career record with a 4.60 ERA.
