COL BKB: UCLA 82, BYU 69

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Luc Richard Mbah a Moute had 24 points and 11 rebounds Wednesday night as sixth-ranked UCLA beat BYU, 82-69, in the season opener for both teams.

Darren Collison scored 16 points for the Bruins (1-0), who trailed at halftime but outscored the Cougars, 46-30, in the second half. Josh Shipp had 13 points for UCLA, which shot 50 percent from the field and scored 35 points off of 23 BYU turnovers.

Keena Young led BYU (0-1) with 16 points. Sam Burgess, Mike Rose, Jimmy Balderson and Lee Cummard all finished with nine points.

BYU led by three points at halftime, but the Bruins opened the second half with a 10-2 run. The Cougars staged a 6-0 run with just under nine minutes left to play, and cut the Bruins' lead to 59-58 -- but the Bruins answered with a 9-4 run and easily led the rest of the way.
