NHL: Washington 4, Ottawa 3 (OT)

WASHINGTON, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Chris Clark scored on a deflection 1:33 into overtime Monday to give the Washington Capitals a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators.

Washington's Alexander Ovechkin scored twice, including the tying goal with 24.4 seconds remaining to send the game into overtime.

Senators defenseman Chris Phillips was whistled for a tripping penalty with 1:03 left in regulation, and despite a heated protest from Ottawa Coach Bryan Murray, the Senators played the rest of the third period down a man.

Taking advantage of the situation, the Capitals pulled goaltender Brent Johnson and skated 6-on-4. The strategy paid off when Ovechkin scored through Ottawa goalkeeper Martin Gerber's pads.

Matt Pettinger got Washington's other goal, while Semin assisted on the final three scores for the Capitals.

Daniel Alfredsson had a goal and an assist for Ottawa, which has lost four games in a row.
