NHL: Pittsburgh 4, Los Angeles 3 (ot)

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Rookie Evgeni Malkin scored a pair of goals, including one in overtime, giving the Pittsburgh Penguins a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Kings.

Malkin tied an 89-year-old NHL record with a first-period shot Wednesday that gave him at least one goal in his first six NHL games -- a feat not accomplished since the league's first season in 1917-18.

But it was his second goal that gave the Penguins the victory. Pittsburgh was on the power play when Sergei Gonchar fired a shot that rebounded from Kings' goalkeeper Dan Coultier. Malkin ripped in the loose puck from the right circle 2:45 into overtime.

The Penguins, who have won five straight games, also got goals from rookie Jordan Staal and Noah Welch.

Los Angeles' Mike Cammalleri, Dustin Brown and Rob Blake each had a goal but it wasn't enough to stop the Kings from losing their sixth game in seven tries.
