NHL: N.Y. Islanders 4, Carolina 3 (OT)

UNIONDALE, N.Y., Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Tom Poti scored a power play goal in overtime Saturday night to give the New York Islanders a 4-3 win against Carolina.

Mike York, Jason Blake and Mike Sillinger all scored once in regulation, Alexei Yashin had four assists, Poti added two assists and goaltender Rick DiPietro surrendered three goals on 40 shots for the Islanders (3-3-2), who are tied with the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh for second place in the Atlantic Division with eight points.

Justin Williams scored two goals, including one on the power play in the third period to even the score at 2-2. Rod Brind'Amour had a goal and two assists and goalie John Grahame made 21 saves on 25 shots for the reigning NHL champion Hurricanes (3-4-2), who have eight points and are tied with Tampa Bay for third place in the Southeast Division.

On the power play, the Islanders went 3-for-7 and Carolina was 1-for-5.
