ARLINGTON, Texas, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Mark Texeira hit a three-run homer and knocked in four runs Friday night to help the Texas Rangers trounce Cleveland, 12-4.
Texeira and Carlos Lee hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the third inning; Lee hit two homers and drove in three runs; Michael Young also had four RBI with two runs and two hits; Gary Matthews, Jr., had three runs and two hits; and one run scored on a fielding error by Cleveland first baseman Ryan Garko for the Rangers (78-76), who have split their last four games.
Winner Adam Eaton (7-4) yielded three runs and 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Hector Luna hit an RBI double and a sacrifice fly; Garko also hit a sacrifice fly; and Joe Inglett had three hits and one RBI for the Indians (70-83), who have a four-game losing streak.
In four innings, loser Paul Byrd (9-9) surrendered eight runs and eight hits.
