MLB: LA Dodgers 2, Arizona 0

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Derek Lowe pitched seven shutout innings and J.D. Drew homered in the seventh as the LA Dodgers beat Arizona, 2-0, Friday night.

Lowe (15-8) limited the Diamondbacks to five hits, walking three and striking out three, as the Dodgers remained ½ game behind San Diego for the top spot in the NL West, and ½ game ahead of Philadelphia for the NL wild card.

The Padres beat Pittsburgh, 6-2, while the Phillies beat Florida, 5-2, Friday night.

Marlon Anderson drove in the other Dodgers run, and Nomar Garciaparra had two hits for Los Angeles.

Takashi Saito earned his 21st save for the Dodgers.

Orlando Hudson and Stephen Drew each got two hits for the Diamondbacks, who have lost four of their last five games.

Arizona starter Claudio Vargas (11-10) took the loss, giving up just two runs on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings.
