MLB: Detroit 17, Baltimore 2

DETROIT, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Magglio Ordonez hit a two-run homer in an eight-run fourth inning and Brandon Inge added a grand slam Friday as Detroit blasted Baltimore, 17-2.

Craig Monroe hit a solo homer in the first inning and finished with two RBI and three runs scored for the Tigers, who temporarily increased their lead in the AL Central over Minnesota to 1 1/2 games.

Ordonez wound up with three RBI and two runs and Curtis Granderson added a homer for the Tigers.

Jeremy Bonderman (12-8) won for the first time since July 24 -- a span of nine starts that saw the right-hander go 0-4. He gave up two runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Nick Markakis and David Newhan accounted for Baltimore's runs, each hitting a solo homer. The Orioles lost for the 10th time in their last 12 games.
