Furyk jumps to No. 2 world golf ranking

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Jim Furyk, the winner of last week's Canadian Open, has jumped to the No. 2 spot in the world golf rankings.

Furyk shot a 5-under-par 65 Sunday to win the tournament in Ontario by one stroke. That allowed him to move past Phil Mickelson in the world rankings.

Tiger Woods, spotted Sunday at the final of the U.S. Open tennis tournament in New York, retained the No. 1 spot in the world by a large margin. Mickelson fell to third while Vijay Singh kept the No. 4 spot.

Adam Scott also won this weekend, taking the Singapore Open, and moved up one ranking spot to No. 5 to replace Retief Gossen, who is sixth. Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia were seventh and eighth, while Geoff Ogilvy moved up to ninth, dropping Luke Donald to 10th.
