Landis tests positive in drug test

LONDON, July 27 (UPI) -- Tour de France winner Floyd Landis was reported Thursday to have tested positive for a banned substance during the race.

The statement from his Phonak team came one day after the International Cycling Union, cycling's governing body, said an unidentified rider had failed a drug test during the Tour.

Landis won the race on Sunday, succeeding fellow American Lance Armstrong, who had won the six previous races.

The Times of London said Landis' whereabouts were unknown after he withdrew from races in the Netherlands and Denmark this week.

The rider concerned was said to have tested positive for testosterone after last Thursday's stage through the Alps to Morzine, which Landis won, sources in France said.
