MLB: Florida 1, Washington 0

MIAMI, July 19 (UPI) -- Cody Ross produced the game's lone run with a solo homer in the top of the second inning Wednesday afternoon as the Florida Marlins beat Washington, 1-0.

Both Ross and Alfredo Amezaga had two hits for the Marlins (42-51), who have won three of their last four games.

Winner Anibal Sanchez (3-0) yielded just one hit in seven scoreless innings with four walks and five strikeouts.

Closer Joe Borowski earned his 19th save.

Alex Escobar and Austin Kearns had the only hits for the Nationals (40-56), who lost for the fourth time in their last six games.

Losing pitcher Ramon Ortiz (6-9) gave up one run and six hits in seven innings with one walk and two strikeouts.

Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman of Washington went 0-for-4, snapping his franchise rookie-record 17-game hitting streak. Washington starting pitchers are winless in their last 12 games, going 0-6.
