SAN DIEGO, July 18 (UPI) -- Adrian Gonzalez hit two home runs Monday, including the go-ahead three-run homer in the seventh, to push San Diego past the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-6.
The victory came in the first of a three-game set in Petco Park in San Diego.
The NL West-leading Padres ended a three-game skid, helped by Mike Cameron, who also homered, and Josh Barfield, who went 3-for-4.
Right-hander Woody Williams allowed four runs on seven hits in six innings, while Alan Embree (3-2) returned from the disabled list to pick up the win. Trevor Hoffman scored his 25th save, pitching a perfect ninth inning.
Ryan Howard blasted his 31st homer of the season in a losing effort for the Phillies. Teammate Pat Burrell went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs.
Rookie left-hander Cole Hamels gave up three runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings, but Rheal Cormier (2-2) gave up Gonzalez's second homer for the loss.
