MLB: Boston 9, Washington 3

BOSTON, June 21 (UPI) -- David Ortiz hit a grand slam home run Wednesday night to help the Boston Red Sox trounce Washington, 9-3, for their six straight win.

Trot Nixon had two runs, three hits and two RBI; Alex Gonzalez had two runs and two hits; Mark Loretta had a run and three hits; and Jason Varitek and Manny Ramirez each drove in a run for the Red Sox (42-28).

Winning pitcher Jon Lester (2-0) limited Washington to one run and three hits in six innings with two walks and 10 strikeouts.

Alfonso Soriano, Damian Jackson and Robert Fick all had one RBI; and Jackson and Royce Clayton had two hits for the Nationals (32-42), who have lost eight of their last 10 games.

Loser Shawn Hill (1-2) was pounded for eight runs and 12 hits in 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out two.
