Ancic ousts Davydenko at Hamburg Masters

HAMBURG, Germany, May 19 (UPI) -- Mario Ancic of Croatia beat fourth-seeded Russian Nikolay Davydenko, 5-7, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, in Friday's quarterfinals at the Hamburg Masters in Germany.

Davydenko had been the highest-standing seed remaining in the field before Friday's round. The 12th-seeded Ancic -- a hero of last year's Croatian Davis Cup -- will face eighth-seeded Spaniard Tommy Robredo, who beat No. 16 David Ferrer, also of Spain, 7-6 (10-8), 6-4, Friday.

Saturday's other semifinal match will feature 15th-seed Czech Radek Stepanek against unseeded Argentine Jose Acasuso.

Stepanek beat Belarusian Max Mirnyi, 7-6 (7-5), 6-1, in the quarterfinal round, while Acasuso bested Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3, to reach his first-ever Masters Series semifinal.

The winner will earn $435,000.
