
RALEIGH, N.C., May 10 (UPI) -- Rod Brind'Amour scored on a deflected shot in the second period Wednesday night as Carolina beat New Jersey, 3-2.
The win came in Game Three of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal, in which the Hurricanes have built a commanding 3-0 lead.
Matt Cullen and Justin Williams scored the other goals; Eric Staal, Bret Hedican, Frantisek Kaberle, and Mark Recchi had assists; and Cam Ward made 28 saves for the Hurricanes, who have stymied what little offense New Jersey has been able to muster in this best-of-seven series.
Carolina won the opener, 6-0, and won Game Two, 3-2, in overtime.
Sergei Brylin and Patrik Elias both had goals; Jamie Langenbrunner had two assists; and goaltender Martin Brodeur made 21 saves for the Devils, who will try to avoid elimination when the host Game Four on Saturday.
