Friday's Davis Cup matches set

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., April 6 (UPI) -- James Blake will face Fernando Gonzalez in Friday's opening match of the United States-Chile Davis Cup quarterfinal battle at Rancho Mirage, Calif.

In the other match Friday, America's Andy Roddick meets Nicolas Massu. In Saturday's doubles, the Bryan twins, Bob and Mike, go against a Chilean duo of Gonzalez and Massu. In Sunday's reverse singles, Roddick meets Gonzalez and Blake will play Massu.

The matches in California will be played on grass and the first team to win three matches takes the round.

Chile, which has never won the Davis Cup, reached the this year's quarterfinals for the first time since 1982 by beating 2005 runner-up Slovakia, 4-1, in the first round on clay.

Hans Gildemeister will be captain the underdog Chileans while Dean Goldfine will be his U.S. counterpart in lieu of the absence of Patrick McEnroe, who is unavailable because of his wife is due to give birth at any time in the next few days.

The United States is 3-0 all-time against Chile in Davis Cup play.
