MARTINSVILLE, Va., April 2 (UPI) -- Tony Stewart captured Sunday's DirecTV 500 Nextel Cup race at the Martinsville (Va.) Speedway.
His No.20 Joe Gibbs Racing Chevrolet crossed the finish line 1.083 seconds ahead of Jeff Gordon.
The victory was Stewart's first of 2006, second at Martinsville, and 25th of his Nextel Cup career.
Jimmie Johnson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kyle Busch completed the top-five, followed by Elliot Sadler, Kevin Harvick, Brian Vickers, Jamie McMurray and Scott Riggs in spots 6-10.
Gordon was fined $10,000 for shoving Matt Kenseth following last Sunday's Food City 500 at the Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.
Johnson re-captured the lead in the Nextel Cup points chase from Kenseth, who fell to third behind Mark Martin. Kasey Kahne and Busch round out the top five spots in the points chase.
