Mickelson leads BellSouth by eight shots

DULUTH, Ga., April 1 (UPI) -- Phil Mickelson suffered a closing double bogey Saturday but still leads the BellSouth Classic at Duluth, Ga., by eight strokes.

Mickelson -- who left two balls in the pond short of the green on the closing hole -- finished the third round with a 5-under 67. After 54 holes, Mickelson stood at 21-under 195.

Mickelson, the defending champion, matched the 54-hole scoring record of Larry Nelson and leads after three rounds for the 19th time in his PGA Tour career. Mickelson won 13 of those events.

Zach Johnson shot 8-under 64 to get to 13-under 203. He was joined in second place by Jonathan Byrd, who birdied six straight holes on the back nine en route to a 66.

Two-time Masters champion Jose Maria Olazabal is fourth at 12-under 204 after a 69 on Saturday. Doug Barron, Steve Flesch and J.J. Henry share fifth at 10-under 206.
