NBA suspends David Harrison

NEW YORK, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- The NBA suspended Indiana Pacers center David Harrison Friday for one game without pay.

The suspension, handed down by NBA Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson, was in response to Harrison directing obscenities at fans during Thursday night's Indiana-Detroit game at Auburn Hills, Mich.

There were still about 10 minutes left in the contest when the incident occurred.

Harrison, a first-round draft pick by the Pacers in 2004, will serve his suspension when the Pacers play the Atlanta Hawks Friday night.

In 42 games this season, the second-year pro is averaging 4.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest. He has career averages of 5.5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 85 games.

Auburn Hills was the site of the league's worst brawl ever on Nov. 19, 2004, when both players and fans got into a melee after a shoving incident involving Detroit's Ben Wallace and former Pacer Ron Artest.
