The 18-year-old Murray had his serve broken three times in the opening set while Hewitt saved two match points with aces at 4-5 and 5-6 in the third and final set to force a tie-break, which Murray won, 7-3.

"He obviously didn't serve as well as he can," Murray said. "I don't know if that was because I was returning very well or if he just wasn't feeling as confident as he normally was."

It is Murray's second career victory over a top 10 opponent. He beat Andy Roddick in the semifinals.
