COL BKB: Virginia 72, North Carolina 68

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., Jan. 19 (UPI) -- Sean Singletary scored 18 points Thursday night as Virginia upset No. 23 North Carolina, 72-68.

Singletary added four rebounds and three assists.

J.R. Reynolds had 17 points and six rebounds, and Laurynas Mikalauskas had 10 points and five rebounds for the Cavaliers (9-6, 3-2 ACC), who overcame 38 percent shooting from the floor with 12 blocked shots on the defensive end -- including five by Jason Cain. Virginia was 23-for-29 from the free throw line, and edged the Tar Heels in rebounding, 28-27.

Tyler Hansbrough had 18 points and 10 rebounds; David Noel added 14 points and 10 rebounds; and Reyshawn Terry had 11 points and six rebounds for North Carolina (10-4, 2-2 ACC), which has lost two straight following a four-game winning streak.

The Cavaliers have won two in a row and three of their last four games.
