Martin Truex Jr. wins Busch Series title

HOMESTEAD, Fla., Nov. 19 (UPI) -- Ryan Newman won the Ford 300 Busch Series race and Martin Truex Jr. clinched the 2005 Busch Series championship at the Homestead-Miami Speedway Saturday.

Newman took the checkered flag 0.137 seconds ahead of Greg Biffle to win his sixth race of the season and the seventh of his Busch career.

Truex, the defending champion, started 42nd due to a crash during qualifying, and finished seventh. His rival for the crown, Clint Bowyer, started in the 12th position.

At the mid-point of the 200-lap event Martin had the lead over Newman and Biffle. Bowyer was ninth and Truex was 11th.

After the final stop of the afternoon, Newman won the race off pit road and took over the top spot. Martin was second and Biffle came out third.

The 2006 Busch Series season will begin at Daytona on Saturday, Feb. 18.
