PHOENIX, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- The Dallas Mavericks outlasted the Phoenix Suns 111-108 in double overtime in the NBA season-opener for both teams.

Dirk Nowitzki scored 28 points and grabbed 15 rebounds while Jason Terry scored 23 points, including eight in the first overtime, for the Mavericks. Josh Howard had 16 points and 11 boards while Keith Van Horn came off the bench to score 15 in the win.

For the Suns, reigning league MVP Steve Nash poured in a game-high 30 points and had nine assists. Raja Bell had 18 points and Shawn Marion contributed 13 points, 16 rebounds and seven assists before fouling out in the loss.
