TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, Oct. 4 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Italian Antonella Serra Zanetti posted a first-round win Tuesday at the $140,000 Tashkent Open.
Meanwhile, sixth-seeded Emilie Loit of France came up a loser.

Serra Zanetti subdued the Ukraine's Mariya Koryttseva 6-2, 6-4, while Loit succumbed to Hungarian Melinda Czink 7-5, 6-0 on the hardcourts at Tashkent Tennis Center.
Fifth-seeded Dutchwoman Michaella Krajicek avoided an upset by beating Czech Hana Sromova 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.
Other first-round wins came for Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja, Russian Evgeniya Rodina and Ukrainian Kateryna Bondarenko.
This week's champion will pocket $22,000.
